The cultural exchange program is a brainchild of Dr. Shelly Valdez, CEO of Native Pathways, Laguna Pueblo, and Dr. Isabel Hawkins, Astronomer & Project Director for the Exploratorium in San Francisco. Over the past five years they have organized six cultural exchange programs for indigenous youth, and this most recent gathering was the most successful to date. The organizers believe that participating can be motivated to preserve the richness of their culture by learning about the legacy of their ancestors in a cultural context. These experiences have ignited in the youth a spirit of service towards their communities.
